  Frequently Asked Poser Questions

Q: Why is it when I put 2 Koshini's in the same room and I use the eyes-up dial, both of them look up?
A: Classic Cross-Talk. You most likely are using P4 or PP right? Okay here's the break down and how to fix it ;)

Just about any character that does not share the same joints & morphs as your primary character will work as a null if you are in a pinch. The basic idea is that Poser 4 & Poser Pro have a tendency to auto-parent morphs & ERCs of whatever you're loading to whatever is selected when you tell the program to load. So if you have selected your first character then you load the skirt, everything will fit fine, however if you then load the belt, instead of copying to the character's morphs, the belt will now copy to the skirt's which in effect will multiply the results and create a horrible mess. You'll see this same thing happen when you load two people into a scene one after another and suddenly the body morphs are identical to the first one... Poser is simply assuming that the second person is clothing for the first and the morphs should therefore match... CR2s with ERCs (Enhanced Remote Controls) and Full Body Morphs or morphs controlled from a body dial, will often produce this problem. Again, this is not all bad, as it can result in less work to fit a piece of clothing, however it can cause some real headaches when using complicated outfits with multiple layers.

The Null approach at eliminating this is loading a non related figure first (NOT PROP!!) like the Cyclorama or an actual Null figure like RBTWhiz's millinium null
(http://rbtwhiz.com/rbtwhiz_ERC.html#CT)
With the Null selected, you then load your first character, then one at a time, select the character and load each piece of clothing. Then when adding the second character, you go back to selecting the Null and load the character as you did with the first. This effectively confuses Poser 4 and Poser Pro into stopping this behavior as it tries to make the first and second character's morphs conform to something that neither has their joints nor their morphs. So... boom, no Crosstalk. However it preserves the needed crosstalk between the character and its clothing.

Now with Poser5, crosstalk has been effectively eliminated, however this can on occasion cause a problem with the ERCs which rely on crosstalk to get their poses from their master. The way to combat this if there is a problem is to follow much the same steps as with Poser4 and Poser Pro, only instead of needing a Null, simply make sure to select the character before loading each piece of clothing. This should allow the ERCs to take their queues from the character. If for some reason your model completely looses its auto conforming, one way that often fixes it is to load the character and then the clothing item into P4 or PP, conform it to the character, then set the clothing's parent to the character's 'Body'. Then save out. This will generally reset all of the internal code and allow P5 once more to use the auto conforming feature.

Q: The Plushie Expansion Pack I purchased, I've loaded but I can't find the MAT Poses in the Pose folder. Where are they?
A: That's because they aren't Mat Poses. They're Materials. Yes, yes, I know, the materials room scares most folk senseless but to be quite honest it really isn't that much more scarey than mat poses and they're much more useful ;) Among other things if you have a favorite satin or glitter material that's created totally in the materials room.... well that one Material file can be applied to ANYTHING! That's right it works just like a mat pose only you have to go to the materials room go to the material zone that you want it to apply to and then just click on the material file and it'll load all the settings right on in. No fuss no muss, need to add it to multiple parts of the clothing, no problem just move between the zones and add them there too. This seems like alot of work to do each individual zone but it also allows you a huge amount of power because you can color each zone a different color if you want! And its not limited to only applying to the same UVmap, it works on any figure any mat zone when it is purely proceedural, so that you can make a skirt match leggings perfectly. So how do you use all of this? Well as I said this was a frequently asked question so visit this thread in the Koshini Forum to see a step by step.

Q: When I move the handle on one of your skirt/dress figures, it yanks the clothing right off of her. Help!?!?!?!
A: This is a frequent problem, don't worry, easily fixed. Problem is you're using the translation tool (it looks like a + in the tool bar. What you want to do is use the rotation/bend tool which is a curved arrow tool. This will allow you to move about the handle without pulling it off the body. Also for finer tuning you can click on the handle and then hit Ctrl-I to bring up the Properties Menu (Mac users... I'm not sure what keys it is for you) and under the Properties you can find numerous dials for rotating and twisting the joint about manually to a much more fine degree.

Q: You said this skirt was fully conforming but when I conform it to my character and move her into a pose the skirt's not following. What's up?
A: One of two problems. First off, this sort of skirt depends heavily upon crosstalk in order to work so as per the above discussion, best way to force crosstalk to work is to select the figure the dress is going to conform to and then load the dress, then conform it. It should follow the figure better now but if it doesn't the second option is that the IK chain is interfering with the information of the legs passing to the dress. Quick way to fix this is once you get your character into the position you want, turn off the IK Chain and the skirt will snap into place around her.

Q: The fully conforming skirt I'm working with gets close but there are still some spots where its poking through. How do I fix this?
A: This isn't a bug... the conforming skirt will get the dress close to perfect in most situations but the more extreme the situaton, the more likely that you'll get poke through. However these situations are why the 'Hip' section that is the main skirt contains dozens of adjustment dials to allow you to fine tune around poke through and sharp edges created by the automated conforming. The joints aren't 'perfect' they can't predict every combination of joint settings, but they'll get you close so that you don't have to fuss with anything but fine tuning.

Q: My skirt still isn't fully conforming. What's up?
A: Well first off, make sure the skirt is actually fully conforming to begin with ;) Several skirts I've done just have numerous handles and dials in the hip but don't conform to anything more than the Buttock movements. If you're running into this on a skirt you've saved and are reloading from in P5/P6, then you do actually have a fixable problem. Poser 5/6 have gone to great measures to counteract crosstalk and conforming skirts depend on them. If you have P4 or PP you're in luck, there's a fast fix. Load the figure, load the skirt, conform the skirt then parent the skirt to the figure. Once you've done all this, resave the skirt and it'll work just fine in P5/P6. If you don't have P4/PP, I'm not certain the above will work in P5/P6. If it doesn't, best chance is to find someone who does and get them to do a quick resave for you. ;) What happened? You most likely saved the skirt in P5/6 without conforming it first.

Q: Why won't your product do X in Daz Studio?
A: This one I'm not going to be able to help you out on. I've had very little luck working with Daz Studio outside of the occasional Line Art render. I really don't know anything about it and won't be of much help if you come to me with problems using it. This said, I very throughly test my products in Poser Pro, 5 and 6, and if Daz is saying that Daz Studio should take Poser Pro files without problem and these aren't working.... the best I can say is to go to Daz's tech support and ask them... if they need a copy of the product to help you out, I'd be happy to provide it to them.

Q: Will you support Daz Studio in the future?
A: Unfortunately I'm really quite swamped supporting Poser Pro/5/6 and don't have time to learn Daz Studio's idiosyncracies. Wish I did though, looks like it's developing some nifty tools. I hope that someone who does have some Daz Studio Experiance can make a converision pack so that others can enjoy my products. I'll help those who want to give it a go, all I can, but being honest, I really don't have the time.
